After a few months being off the clock in NYC’s nightlife. I’m making my return strong with tonight being the kick off at Hudson Terrace for IndusTuesdays.

Hudson Terrace

Between 11th & 12th
New York, NY 10014
Web: http://www.hudsonterracenyc.com

Official Press Release from IndusTuesdays website:

Join us for a very special INDUS TUESDAYS event on August 30th at NYC’s Infamous Rooftop Restaurant/Lounge with Three Different Indoor/Outdoor Rooms.

Hudson Terrace, with its magnificent urban vista, is an unparalleled entertainment destination. Discreetly tucked at the edge of midtown along the Hudson River, this spectacular haven of serene opulence offers unforgettable venue amenities.

Hudson Terrace defies convention with a breathtaking, all-season rooftop lounge built atop temperature-regulated mahogany flooring. It is a dreamy scene, where Japanese willows, eccentric evergreens and walls of wisteria guard the glass-sided cabanas situated along the roof’s perimeter. Up here, even the most jaded world-traveler can be seduced by the sweeping views and pleasure of lounging al fresco in New York City.

Note: Patron’s who have not RSVP’d will have to pay a $10.00 cover charge.

Dress Code:
Trendy, Business Chic & Elegant

Event Highlight:
Cool music played at a low volume to facilitate successful business and social networking til 9pm
NYC’s DJ Insomnia spinning great music and creating a fun atmosphere after 9 pm while allowing for continued conversation and interaction
Build business contacts and new friendships like you can do nowhere else
The first two hours of our events are like an extended “cocktail hour” with passed hors d’oeuvres at many events, drink specials, and low music conducive to business networking and making new connections. Later, our events take on a more social atmosphere, with great music, dancing and conversation. Our events are held at the hippest and most interesting venues. However, the music is never so loud that you cannot talk and our crowd is generally comprised entirely of young professionals. We do request “business” or “business casual” dress for our events. With that and a fun spirit, you’re good to go!

If you’re in the D.C. area on September 23rd, come join me as I rock out with DJ Intense & DJ Catalyst as we perform a special routine and speak on the history of South Asian DJs: their origin, present status, and what we believe to be the future of South Asian DJs.

Here is the official Press release from Subcontinental Drift’s event page:

Hip Hop and the South Asian Diaspora have lead a very intriguing life together. From east to west, desis have taken solace in the underground creative outlets of hip hop culture. Now, here in DC, a growing arts collective has set it’s sights on showcasing these immense skillz for one amazing night.

This September, Subcontinental Drift hopes to put up an event highlighting South Asians in all 4 elements of hip hop. There will be true DJs (that, yes, scratch!) in the form of DJ Insomnia out of NYC and his crew. We have emcees that will rock your brain like Navi, Raja Wilco, and Ko the Timeless. There is going to be a graffiti artist that will be creating live art as the night moves on. And of course, there will be some ill breakdancers, battling for the crowd’s respect.

Subcontinental Drift is an organization that started a few years back in Washington, DC. It was started with the hope of creating an open, inclusive community for creative South Asians and the broader Washington community. There are monthly open mics held at various locations through out the city and every year we try to do one big event. There is no profit generated from any of the events, so we need all the help we can get to put on this amazing event 🙂 The money generated from this Kickstarter will help pay for the many artists performing, and the venue. Extra money generated will be added to the budget for next year’s big event.

Help donate for the event and please do join us as we celebrate South Asians in Hip-Hop!

Ladies and Gentlemen, at your reception….MORE THAN 4 SPEECHES IS A BAD IDEA! Please refrain from having more than max, maybe 5 speeches. Trust me, people LOVE to talk and it eats out of your dance floor time. Throw in a father/daughter dance if you have to but cut down on your speeches. I’ve been seeing this mistake happen over and over again despite informing clients about this! I’ve done too many Weddings where dancing ends up being an hour and 30 minutes. That’s lame, especially for the amount of money you spend on a DJ. LET PEOPLE ENJOY THEMSELVES! Let your DJ’s talents shine! =)

Also, it doesn’t hurt to keep each speech to 3-5 minutes maximum. Having 4 speeches, at 10 minutes long is 40 minutes out of your program! That’s not including the time it takes for your MC to introduce the next person, for that person to walk up to the mic; settle in, and then begin their speech followed by them walking off the dancefloor. You’re looking at easily an hour for 4 speeches at 10 minutes a piece. Do the math when deciding who is speaking and think realistically who’s going to speak for too long.

Oh yeah, and NO PERFORMANCES! Nobody wants to come to a Wedding Reception to watch your cousins and friends perform dances to songs they hear at every other Wedding. Your guests come to do 3 things and 3 things only. Drink, Dance, and Eat! (yes in order of priority)

If you haven’t seen my interview with Royal Pains star Reshma Shetty, watch it! I point out some good tips that’ll truly help your wedding experience.

Goodluck with your wedding planning!
